Temptation of Magic

Posted in Magic by raistlin @ Sep 1, 2010

Can you feel it coursing through your veins, apprentice?
The apprentice could. It was like a tingling sensation threating to overrun his senses, coursing through his body. He could not tell whether his veins were the carrier or there were other channels at work, he was too busy fighting the urge to surrender to this. But he knew he had to focus on his master’s voice yet the urge was growing.
This shivering sensation, alternating cold with warmth, threatened his ability to reason and was quickly swerving out of control.
You are fighting it! the master’s calm voice could no longer calm him. You mustn’t. Embrace it. Hold it tight. Focus.
His fear outgrew his reason and he dared not let go. His mater could no longer tame the voices in his head that whispered words of fear. Now he was trying to meddle with this he could not control. He had to let go.
The feeling was growing stronger and now his body was truly shivering. For him it mattered not, he had been shivering all along just that now he felt his control failing. This force growing from within was about to burst but he had no idea about the outcome. This lack of knowledge scared him to the point where his trust in the master broke.
He could no longer hear the voice whispering the advice of millennium-old wisdom. He could not be the container for that wisdom. Fear won.
Then … he shattered. This force burst from within, cracking his dry skin, pushing his flesh and bone through it out into the open, reaching out to fill the entire space between apprentice and master with a glass-like matter, red with the young man’s innards.
A container that refuses to be filled with knowledge is useless and therefore will break. the master’s voice was impervious to the tragedy of his apprentice’s death. It is no tragedy when such a container becomes dust.

The Pagan Calendar

Posted in Magic by raistlin @ Jan 11, 2010

The modern pagan calendar bears many differences from the various calendars of the old earth religions. The Celtic cultures, the norse cultures and the descendant germanic cultures all had their own variations and their true meaning and composition is unsure today, lacking credible sources.

However, the modern reenactments such as Wicca, have built their own calendar breathing new life and meaning into some old ideas. Here is basic pagan modern calendar along with the calendar’s festivals:

The Ontological Argument, Pantheism and Antitheism

Posted in Magic by raistlin @ May 18, 2009

I was watching this week a series of very interesting documentaries published by BBC and entitled “The Atheism Tapes”. These interviews (in fact) were remainders of an older documentary movie about the history of atheism, but they were considered so interesting (and rightfully so) that they were published separately.

Now, as a side observation, the thing which I didn’t like about them is that the six personalities interviewed all came from christian or jewish backgrounds, therefore their arguments were targeted agains the christian image of God and those that tried to touch other religions, did so in a grossly uneducated manner (one of them said something that the hates all the violence that stems from religion and that a religion who specifically demands violence -reference to islam- is malicious by definition, completely ignoring the fact that the Qu’ran specifically forbids any kind of killing while all the “death to infidels” related stuf stems from a few deranged individuals). Lovers' Day

Posted in Magic by raistlin @ Feb 13, 2009

In parts of the world, the month of February (Gregorian calendar) marks a celebration that has gained (regain, I would say) a great deal of importance in the contemporary world: lover’s day.

Historically and religiously, springcoming in general and the months of February or March (or that part of the year which comes around this time of the Gregorian calendar) have been home to a variety of festivities related to fertility, spring, nature, the sun and others. A common laitmotif among them is rebirth (nature’s rebirth after the clutches of winter) and love. (more…)

The road is long. Can anything else be said about the path on which we wander in this storm which we define in four letters ‘life’. So many people have tried to define it, polish the term and help us understand it better, to grasp the meaning of ‘what is life’, ‘what does it mean to live/be alive’ and so many other questions. I will not join them in trying to bring understanding, since I believe the answer is some personal, which at best we can share with those that make our inner circle.

Now I want to say something else. I want to tell you that the road is long. Just like any road, this too has crossroads, it’s full of choices … and in fact every second is a choice which sets the direction on the road. When the time comes to stop, will you be able to say that you harbor no regrets?

What I like and what I hate about Christmas

Posted in Magic by raistlin @ Dec 24, 2008

So there it is, Christmas again. I should learn to foresee it, after all it happens every year.

Well, I guess by now most of you know that I’m definitely not a fan of the pompous parasite that is The Church. Given that Christmas is a religious holiday by definition and by excellence, I’ve always had some reserves when it came to enjoying it. Still, there is some good in it too.

But let’s keep the good for last and start with the bad stuff: (more…)

Building new worlds

Posted in Magic by raistlin @ Dec 14, 2008

Building new worlds obliges us to give up worlds. The process of creation comes from a necessity, a deep desire to have something unique that wasn’t there before and which cannot be obtained by any other means than your own sacrifice and work. Of course, sometimes this requires outside assistance and intervention, but ultimately the entire effort results into something new, something that would satisfy that deep necessity which compelled you to start the process of creation in the first place. Shadows and Dust

He looked at the candle in a strange intense manner, with his soft dark eyes now staring intensely as if the hissing of the candle would bear some deep secrets. Or maybe the aura of light worked as some sort of protective shield against the darkness that ruled the rest of the room … who could tell.

He wished time could hold still, just still so that the sand of the hourglass could eventually flow backwards, to otherwheres and otherwhens. But time wasn’t obeying his wish, for a lonely teardrop was slowly finding its way down his cheek, eventually puddling up near the candle. (more…)
